When new neighbours move into the house next door, twins Jazz and Mortimer can’t help being excited. The house has been empty for ages and they have been hoping to have neighbours with children their own age. But Jazz and Mortimer are disappointed to learn there are no children – just a man who goes by the name of Dr Salamander and his elderly housekeeper, Mrs Heckle. They are an odd couple, and the children keep careful watch to find out more about them. But the twins have another mystery to solve – why are the neighbourhood pets disappearing?
